To all major TV stations: STOP THE REALITY!

As I sit here watching American Idol wind down, I have to say something to somebody and hope that it's heard.   To all the major television stations and their subsidiaries:  ENOUGH WITH THE REALITY SHOWS ALREADY!   How about some original work, how about the art of writing real scripts -- now that the writer's strike is over -- and having real, talented actors act?   I am genuinely sick of hearing about the painful destruction of dreams that should belong to those who want to be singers, want to be dancers, want to be on TV or the big screen, because you know, people should be able to maintain those fantasies without our having to witness this degree of  self-destruction.  Those who are genuinely talented will follow that passion and find a way to make it past the gate.  What this reality run amuck -- by lazy producers who somehow think we want more of this crap -- has done is make it much harder for those who actually have talent to get the opportunities that the fifteen minutes of fame on these shows offer to the mediocre.  Case in point: the poorly structured show on ABC that rewarded a team of people a recording contract that they absolutely did not deserve.  And it was judged by two people who have, at best, marginal qualifications to judge much less create and direct a group of people to a successful career.  That show was about the two of them, not the people performing and when reality hits, and it will, these people will be left standing there wondering what happened.  An English or other European accent does not qualify these people as experts. Ironically, the only reality show that actually seems to have a modicum of standards is American Idol and even some of that is a bit predictable.  So, can you just tell the powers that be, stop the madness...just...stop.  And get some real entertainment, done by real actors who have real talent.  Think I shall go look at a cable station now...
