AN OPEN LETTER TO INDIANAPOLIS: ABOUT ANDRE CARSON

I have a cynic's view of politicians in general.  So when I was invited to meet Andre Carson, my expectations were, well, what they were.  I walked right into the room where he was chatting and initiated a conversation about one of my key concerns: education. Imagine my surprise to have met a man who was -- from my perspective -- very grounded in who he was and what he stood for.   I was surprised at how much he know about the inner workings of government at the local, state and national level -- just on this subject alone.  It also helped to know that his wife is a teacher in the public school system and she has hands-on experience in what needs fixing.  I am big on who people in politics, entertainment, sports (take a lesson Pacers) surround themselves with because the actions and behaviors of those people generally define who he or she is and what he or she has the potential to accomplish.  But that's just me.  From what I saw, with the people he introduced us to during the conversation, he has a good circle of people around him. I like real people; I can read a fake in minutes.  I went intending to stay for just a few minutes and, to my surprise, stayed almost to the end.  So he has my endorsement and vote.  We could use a few more of him in politics and a few less of those who are simply taking a page from the playbook of G.Bush with the media antics and nonsense about family values -- anyone with a conscience has family values, we all have family values.  But don't you assume he is going to get elected because someone else will take care of it.  Make sure you take fifteen minutes out of your day and go vote.  As many of you who didn't vote for the mayor of Indianapolis can see, everybody thought somebody else would take care of it and nobody did.  Look what happened.  Vote on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.  Have a hand in doing something good for your future and the future of this country.  One small thing; one big result.

Note: I wasn't paid, coerced, bribed, etc. to write this letter. Those who know me know that I never support what I don't believe in.
